Boutique waxes

Postby G3valeting » Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:03 pm

I have noticed more and more that some valeters and detailers are spending vast amounts on waxes and sealants or tie ins with high end boutique wax makers/providers in the hope this will attract more business . some spending hundreds of £££'s to attract more high end business/cars .

This imo if your business model is flawed is a complete waste of time i have seen certain people complaining that they have next to no work or are doing valeting part time or they are doing low quality jobs and assume that paying £300 for a wax will somehow bring in higher end work ? No !!! this money would be better spent on getting a website built with good seo, yes it takes time but it will build your brand and future potential customers can see the quality of your work and take it from there ..
The trouble is with spending £££'s on waxes is that you then have to justify the price in your valets so a £70 valet for instance would need to add probably £30 to that price which if your pricing structure can take it or the customers wallet more importantly can take it fine but most would rather have a cheap wax that lasts like colly .
The trouble with all this is it's a bit like keeping up with the jones's and 1 it gets expensive and 2 the customer in most cases doesn't give a monkeys whether it's crystal rock or turtle wax long as the cars protected .

From a business point of view this doesn't stack up , as many will know i have my mitchell and king affiliation so you may think that it's the pot/kettle situation but for me my business model can sustain it and it does bring in some work but not as much as you would think . So if you are relying on a wax to bring in more work forget it. Get your business model right sort out the pricing structures because £15 wash vacs and £60 full valets won't justify the outlay..

I have noticed the trend for WMD (Wallets Mega Drained) waxes of late too Gary.

I feel that unless you are a boutique wax manufacturer's approved member, then it's a waste of money and effort.

If someone is really into waxes, there are enough great waxes around without spending ridiculous amounts of money on them.

As Gareth says.......YOU'RE ON FIRE!
