Shampooing Seats And Carpets

Postby Admin » Tue Apr 08, 2014 2:42 pm

Shampooing seats and carpets with a extractor vac like a VAX, George etc we all do regular in our line of work, but one thing that springs to mind is how do we dry the seats and carpets out so the vehicle is usable after the service is complete, So what method do you used to solve this problem?

Time of year helps a lot as Dennis said #HotSunnyDays. What works for me best is not over wetting with upholstery cleaner wipe over with microfibre and use extractor vac to suck up the cr@p  I found this way leaves the seats or carpets dry.

I usually pre-spray agitate with soft brush (if really bad use a harder brush!) vacuum off with usual spray upholstery tool, wipe down with micro-fibre cloth and then vacuum off again using a crevice tool. This seems to get a lot of the moisture out. Oh and run the engine with heater pointing at the floor when approx half way round. Also leave disposable seat covers but do tell customer not to leave them on when not in use as it will hold the damp in the seat.

I use a fan heater or the pet drier to dry the seats to a reasonable standard.

Use the wet-vac (George)to get the seats as dry as I can followed by a pat down with a clean micro-fibre. Then place a small fan heater (cheapo £9.99 job from Wilko or Robert Dyas) inside the car and let it run for the last 40 mins or so while I crack on with the exterior polish and trim dressings. With the weather were having at the moment it makes a massive difference in drying times, however if the seat's are still damp when I finish I leave a couple of disposable covers for the customer.
